2020 Bundalong Single Vineyard Shiraz (6 Pack)

$210.00

This wine has great balance and is vibrantly fruit. Deep purple colour with a purple tinge, the nose has deep black fruit aromas of blackberry, mulberry and liquorice with black pepper notes and some complex tarry secondary characters. Toasty vanillin characters contributed by the oak sit in the background. Bright fruited and round the palate is a generous mouthful of black fruits and spice with fine soft tannins.

Selected from the Childerley Block, fruit was crushed and fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters for eight days. The wine was then racked into barrel, 22% new French oak barriques with the balance going into seasoned oak for 18 months.

"Sweetly fruited with elegant complexity, the bouquet presents dark plum, clove, subtle vanilla, and hazelnut aromas, followed by a silky-smooth palate that offers succulent fruit flavours with beautifully integrated tannins, finishing silky and lingering. At its best: now to 2032"

- Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Good stuff this. A really tidy Coonawarra Shiraz from Bundalong made a little more classy from the golden touch of winemaker Ox Hardy.

Choc-dipped dark cherries and fruit bun spices are all the rage here. A faint dried red petal perfume slowly diffuses and a shimmer of nuttiness seems to wriggle through on slow release. That core of dark fruit pins itself to the frame as notes of dried sage and mint wander about. A wine with shape, length and a finish that just won't let go, this is a very good buy for the asking price. I suspect it will age nicely too. Well played."

- Steve Leszczynski, Q Wine

"This is a decidedly savoury affair, with the fruit expressed in evolved and nuanced forms. It opens on dusty cedar before broadening into salted grilled meat, vanilla, black olive, eucalyptus oil, bramble, plum, tomato bush and tobacco leaf. Layers of dried herbs, leather and blackberry reduction follow.

The palate is open-knit and in step with the nose - sappy in feel, wrapping around notes of blackberry compote, plum, tomato bush, pan juices, dried oregano, cedar and a hint of black pepper spice. At five years of age, the tannins have melted nicely into the wine, while still providing enough frame to carry a finish of good length. I’d drink this sooner rather than later. For $35, it offers solid savoury complexity and will pair well with grilled beef."
